Located near Rio Maior, a mere 35 minute drive north of Lisbon, Golden Eagle is one of Portugal ‘s most fascinating and competitive Golf courses. Designed by acclaimed American architect Rocky Roquemore the course is styled in a typical American modern school design, focusing on target golf and it has been awarded "Course of the Year" in 1996 by the Portuguese Golf Federation. Framed by a natural landscape of rare beauty, the course spreads over 220 acres where the players have to detour around eight lakes and 87 large bunkers. With the building of new tees, which expanded the course’s length to 6,623 meters, Golden Eagle has become one of the largest courses in Portugal, thus ascending to the championship category. To make Golden Eagle even more endearing to golf lovers, a new course is now under construction on the resort with completion due in mid 2010. A championship golf course with 18 holes, and par 72, designed by a European Golf Design firm (part of the PGA European Tour). Golf courses, a shopping village, homesites and apartments have been designed to fit the land without taking away is natural beauty. The Golden Eagle Golf Club was a rare opportunity for the designer to take the golfer to the many unique features of a beautiful property. Hills, water, forest, and grand vistas make Golden Eagle an adventure of discovery for the golfer.
